Below are the platforms and resources I mentioned during my talk
Kiln Hire
Kiln Share is a search engine where you can search for potters in your area who rent out their kilns.
Public & Product Insurance
If you sell your work, run workshops, or interact with the public, you should protect yourself with public & product insurance. You can buy it from lots of independent insurance companies but you can also buy it from,
Craft Potters Association
Membership includes the option to add £5 million of Public and Product Liability Insurance.
Combined membership and insurance is approximately £65 per year.
Business Banking & Payments
SumUp
I use SumUp for card payments and they also offer a free web shop where you only pay an online transaction fee per purchase..
• 1.69% fee for in-person transactions
• 2.50% fee for online payments
There are many alternatives. Compare fees carefully before committing.
Instagram & Marketing
Domestika
A wide range of creative courses including instagram, branding, graphic design, photography, product styling and marketing.
They regularly run sales and courses can be very affordable, sometimes under £5. Ive done quite a few graphics, branding and photography self paced online courses with them and they have been really helpful.
Domestika also has a free Instagram strategy guide you can download
The Quiet Creatives Academy
Founded by Ilona Glastonbury, formerly a potter and now an educator based in Australia.
Her Instagram course is self-paced and very practical. I found it extremely useful. She also does regular posts and free lives where you can hear her talk about about instagram. She always keeps up with the changes instagram makes and keeps you updated with whats new.
Her course, The Poppy, is an investment as it is roughly about £140.
A great free platform for creating social media posts, graphics and marketing materials.
Websites
Google Sites
Free and simple website builder.
You do not get a custom domain automatically.
You can purchase a domain separately from providers such as:
GoDaddy or 123reg
Domains can sometimes cost £5 – £20 per year.
If you don’t want to purchase a domain name you can use QR codes to help direct people to your website
Free QR code generator:
Canva
I now use Squarespace.
There are many platforms available, but I found Squarespace well suited to creatives and easy to customise.
A basic plan can cost approximately £100 per year.
